The primary goal of the Family Resource Center is to provide the families of north central Arkansas with educational and informational tools in an effort to strengthen the family unit; regardless of their economic level, religious beliefs, race, ethnicity or social status. These tools come in the form of printed materials/brochures, parenting classes, educational forums, workshops and support through rescources referrals.

Free child care is available by reservation for all FRC classes.

The Baxter County Family Resource Center is a division of the Baxter County Juvenile Services Office. For more information regarding the programs below, as well as other programs offered through the center, contact Angie Dalton at 425-3840 or click here to email.

Workshops and Trainings

Efforts to better equip the community with family strengthening tools, knowledge, and skills is demonstrated through the Baxter County Family Resource Center's sponsorship of workshops and trainings. Workshops and trainings are episodic. Workshops or training sessions are planned, as needed, on a variety of subject matters.

Conflict Resolution Through Peer Mediation

Area schools participate in this program. Some schools introduce the program as early as the fifth grade. Students are invited to become peer mediators. Those students that accept the invitation are required to attend 8 hours of instruction. Initial training is provided by Cheryl Green, the Director, and includes a thorough breakdown of the skills required of a mediator and detailed roleplay of the mediation process. Subsequent training is at the respective school sponsors' discretion. Mediator training is usually held in the first quarter of the school year followed up with a Rally in the fourth quarter. A rally is an energetic celebration of the program's success for the year. Activities include team building exercises and fun, competitive games capped off with awards.

Individualized/Specialized Workshops for Area Schools

These include workshops such as Smart Choices/ Better Chances, a volunteer instructor training for school resource officers presented by the Office of the Attorney General, and Aggression Replacement Training, a curriculum that works with aggressive youth and is the core curriculum used at Baxter County Alternative School.
